We were approached by Natchez Regional Medical Center (one of our most loyal customers) to design a logo for their gift shop newly re-branded “Hidden Treasures”. The project began, as most do, in our trusty notebook. We knew that we wanted the main component in the logo to be a treasure chest so we started sketching.

After coming up with a sketch we deemed workable, we jumped into Adobe Illustrator to create a digital version. (Illustrator is an extremely powerful vector based graphic art program. Vector art is advantageous for logos because it affords ultimate scalability without loss of quality. No matter if you are printing a business card or a billboard, the quality will remain at 100%.)

After drawing the chest we worked with the client to get a color combination that they were satisfied with and then we called it a finished product.

Upon completion and implementation into the hospital’s ongoing marketing efforts, we were pleased to hear that Hidden Treasures Gift Shop was setting record sales goals that were attributed to the new logo. Today, you can see this logo across Natchez in various marketing outlets for Natchez Regional as well as in the hospital at the gift shop. Stop by Hidden Treasures inside the main entrance of Natchez Regional to see the logo and check out all of the great gift items they have available!

Branding has become a marketing buzzword over the last few years. Everyone uses it and most do not even know what it’s all about. At Consilium, we want to change the way people think about branding. We want to help you understand what your brand is and is not. We want to help you define a brand that is vivid and accurate. We want to help you grow your brand. We want to help you succeed.

So what is branding NOT?

Branding is NOT a brand name.
Branding is NOT a logo.
Branding is NOT a tagline.
Branding is NOT a website.
Branding is NOT a color scheme.

Branding is an identity. It is the way that a company is viewed by customers. A brand name, logo, tagline, website, and color scheme are not your brand – they are assets that help you develop and reinforce your brand in the minds of your customers. Strategic Marketing Guru David Aaker describes Brand as what customers “associate with our business in terms of perceived quality, innovativeness, product class expertise, customer orientation, and so on.” Your brand is basically your company’s reputation. Are you reliable? Do you follow up on promises? Are you the best at what you do?

It is important to determine what your brand is. What do you want your reputation to be? What is it about your company that makes you a better choice than the next guy in the phone book?

More to come…

In early 2009, we identified a dramatic and precise need for marketing and creative design services in Natchez. We felt that we could leverage our education and experience those fields to help businesses in Natchez and beyond to compete on a global level.

We needed a name for our company – something that would raise an interested eyebrow and also convey the heart of our mission. This is how we stumbled upon the Latin word consilium meaning wisdom, consultation, advice, plan, and resolution. So much meaning in just one word – just what we needed to get the point across.

Consilium has been widely welcomed in the city and has begun to share our resources with many businesses and organizations. It is our goal that in time Consilium will come to mean reliability, strength, and hope for the Miss-Lou.
